The four great commitments from the individual

We now have a small but significant group of people helping us with our aims. This shows the leadership at the top that they are doing the right thing. It is also a good time to consider the individual with white marks. What qualities must he carry inside himself? Here we outline the four great commitments.

A great aim: The first commitment is essentially the decision to want to make a massive contribution to vitiligo investigation. It is not a slogan for the individual. It is the sentence that gives him or her meaning and solace in equal measure. Without this desire it is easy to focus on personal tragedy and negativity. Reframing the whole situation as a possibility to learn not for yourself but for others shifts the situation completely and instils a new sense of positivity and leadership in the individual.

A commitment to continuously acquire knowledge: It is not a secret that the education level of people in the vitiligo community is currently at incredibly low levels. For investigators this is not only detrimental to the investigative process but also a key area to focus on if they want to discover something new about their condition. This is why we have created so many educational materials for them. Education never stops and with vitiligo education sadly for many people it has not even started.

Work hard: It goes without saying that nothing will be achieved without hard work. The vision is massive. The goal is almost unreachable and the commitment to work hard is one of the few things that are under your control. Do not approach this as a hobbyist. The resources we have created for you have been specifically selected to allow you to work hard and long at the puzzle.

Perseverance: There will be many moments where your efforts will not result in any new discovery about vitiligo. There will be many things you will try that will cause no decrease in the size of your white marks and may even cause an increase. You will fail again and again and one more time after that. You must not be disheartened. We already knew that would happen. You must commit to cheerfully and enthusiastically persevere.

The four commitments can be thought of as the absolute basic requirements to succeed in this project. It is advisable to review them every few months to reassess if you are committed or not.
