Vitiligans just want a fair chance at a good life
The central theme when talking to people with Vitiligo (vitiligans) is the sense that it has taken something from them. The feeling that now life has changed and they have less possibilities in life due to their skin condition. This feeling of helplessness is the key element that when controlled is able to trigger massive changes in the individual’s life and should be the focus of our attention. Ultimately, we all just want an equal opportunity to be the best version of ourselves, and at The Vitiligo Way we wish to express our desire to create the conditions for that to happen.
We are taking on this difficult but not impossible task for our people with vitiligo. Ours are a great people. 100 million strong who have lived life with a unique set of limitations that sometimes others just can’t understand (and they shouldn’t need to) It is deeply encouraging that after speaking to over 150 people with vitiligo it has been seen that they are some of the most hopeful and willing to change people ever despite the health concerns. These people are the reason we work, and we are aware of the responsibility we have accepted.
Throughout history, countless people have tried to do something about vitiligo and countless times they failed. The reasons for this are many but it is our intention to salute their efforts and approach the problem from a deeper and wider perspective. Our role is to lead the line in private investigation, and this cannot happen until we awaken the desire in our people to help us. Our people will not be motivated to make a huge sacrifice for others until they themselves are ready to receive a responsibility of this magnitude.
If the day will come when vitiligo will no longer be seen as something to be scared of, it will not be because some external factor “cured” it. It will come because people with vitiligo organised themselves and looked at the bigger picture. Everything we do is with this bigger picture in mind.
