Edesa Biotech brings injectables to the vitiligo table.
Edesa Biotech( a Canadian biopharmaceutical company) is currently involved in one of the most different approaches to the vitiligo puzzle. Their product, EB06 is not a cream or a tablet. It is an injectable biologic (read our article about biologics). This is the latest update on its progress.
History: EBO6 started development in the early 2020s after there was growing evidence to suggest Biologics could be highly effective in vitiligo.
How it works: Targets a specific protein (CXCL10) that the body overproduces with vitiligo. This is the same protein sends a signal to the T cells in the body to attack melanocytes. EBO6 turns off this signal.
Phase 1: During the phase 1 clinical trial the drug was tested on 65 people and showed positive and safe results.
Phase 2: In early 2023 permission was given permission to conduct phase 2 trials. Phase 2 is happening right now and they are doing double blind placebo tests on a much larger set of people.
Phase 3:If everything goes well when phase 2 ends around 2028 then phase 3 will start in 2028 or 2029
The whole area of biologics is exciting in general and we have high hopes for these type of solutions to make a massive difference in the vitiligo space.
